Homemade vanilla:
Any Vodka
Vanilla Beans grade B

I do almost 1 bean per ounce of vodka…but I think you could do slightly less beans!

I make a little slit in them before putting them in the bottle.

Then I let them sit 3-6 months to “brew” once it’s super dark and smells amazing it’s time (:

Since being pregnant, my mindset has shifted a little. I think more about how I can be prepared not just for myself, but also as the protector of a child. I don’t plan on only camping when Jack is free to come with me, so I’ve been doing more research on the things I can bring to feel safer and more prepared when I’m out alone.

1. The Byrna
After trying the Byrna launcher at my friend’s house, I realized it could be a great alternative for someone looking for a less-lethal self-defense option. It gives me so much more peace of mind at night when I’m alone. I also like that it can be an option for road trips since it’s legal in all 50 states. #ByrnaPartner @byrnanation

2. Bear spray
If you hike or camp in bear country, this is definitely worth having! It’s made specifically for bear encounters but it’s beneficial for the 2 legged encounters as well, but make sure to check local regulations and know how to use it before heading out.

3. Garmin SOS
Being prepared also means having a way to get help if something goes wrong. If I get hurt or lost somewhere without cell service, having a Garmin means I can still message someone or call for emergency help. This is something I definitely take with me on all solo trips!

4. A whistle
Such a simple thing, but so important! A whistle can carry much farther than your voice and help alert nearby hikers or rescuers if you’re lost or injured. It’s lightweight, doesn’t need batteries, and takes up basically no space. I always want one somewhere easy to reach because you never know when you might need it!

For me, it’s all about being prepared so I can keep doing the things I love while feeling a little safer out there. 🤍
