Why Snowshoe Mountain is the Perfect Getaway

December 28, 2022February 16, 2024

I recently visited Snowshoe Mountain in partnership with West Virginia Tourism and wanted to share my thoughts about this truly…

Crazy this use to be home 🄹 Crazy this use to be home 🄹
ā¬‡ļøthese might save you some pain 🧔✨ 1. S ā¬‡ļøthese might save you some pain 🧔✨

1. Short trails ≠ easy
The amount of times I thought a 2–3 mile trail would be easy… I was so underprepared šŸ˜… Elevation changes everything.

2. Sneakers > boots
WAY more comfortable and just as grippy. I actually feel more secure because I can feel where I’m stepping. You’ll only catch me in boots if I’m using snowshoes ā„ļø

3. Water & snacks matter more than you think
Sip regularly, bring electrolytes. I used to wait until the viewpoint… don’t do that. You’ll feel way better if you fuel along the way.

4. Your first few hikes are the hardest
Wrong clothes, too much (or not enough) in your pack, walking too fast, feeling nervous—been there. It’s all normal and gets easier quickly.

5. Don’t count on cell service
A lot of trails don’t have it, and you might lose it before you even get there. This got me in trouble early on šŸ‘€
Download maps, screenshot everything, and bring a backup battery—just in case 🫶

6. You don’t need to be in ā€œhiking shapeā€
If you can walk around your neighborhood or the grocery store, you can hike šŸ™‚ You get stronger the more you go.

7. You don’t need expensive gear
I definitely didn’t start with anything fancy. Thrift it or use what you have—good socks, non-cotton clothes, grippy sneakers, and a backpack.

8. Always start early
Trust me, you’ll need more daylight than you think… especially when you’re starting out.

9. Double check your pack before you start
Every. single. time.

10. Water bottles > water bladders

Sometimes as in often 🫣🧔 Find a sunny weeke Sometimes as in often 🫣🧔

Find a sunny weekend and go! Trust me the gear now is 100x warmer, comfier, and just better!

My life would be drastically different if I didn’t try it again!!

If you grew up on the East Coast i totally understand camping is kinda a hit or miss between bugs and weather.

The thing I realized about camping when we were kids was that our parents weren’t gonna back out just because the weather wasn’t going to workout…No they had that planned 6 months in advance.

But you as an adult now get the choice to wait til a sunny nice weekend comes to try again(: ā˜€ļøāœØ

If everyone just spent a little more time sleeping outside by choice I think we would all be happier(:
Getting outside šŸ¤ even in busy seasons šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļøā˜€ļøšŸ„¾šŸ§”āœØ
